Key Principles: Why design counts.

Our years of experience and foresight into plant design for growth will pull together aspects of hard and soft landscaping with your climate and style influences to deliver the perfect garden to enjoy for decades to come adding value to your life and surroundings.

Cambridge Landscape and Design's gardens are designed for the future. They are built to the highest standards to look good and last.

The answers to these key questions will have the biggest influence in shaping your garden.

• What do you need to achieve? - Practical elements like parking, pathways and access.
• What is your lifestyle? Entertainment in the garden, or a space for children to play.
• Are there existing plants or structures to consider? Mature trees or fencing which needs to stay.
• What is your project budget? Types of plant and materials will differ accordingly.
• What are the climate factors? Such as site location, soil type and pH, light levels and drainage.
• What are your style influences in garden design? Using current trends, proven styles, like cottage garden, or a town garden.

All these points and more must be taken into consideration, and we are there to help you make the right decisions and achieve the best from your outdoor space, giving you the garden of your dreams.

Our promise to you is that when we arrive to build the garden no other project is ongoing; we will only work for you until the work is completed. We always remember that you have invited us to your property and we try to keep everything as tidy as possible and create the minimum amount of disturbance to your everyday life.

Patios: Sit outside while the sun shines.

The most important points on all construction is the quality of the build, of prime importance is what you cannot see; the foundation, and what happens if there is major rainfall. These are the first points to address.

All paving is laid on a bed of solid mortar, which is on top of a properly constructed foundation. All joints between paving's are filled with a wet mix, for the best results.
Time is taken to select the correct product for the specifications laid down by the client. There is a vast array of paving products on the market; all vary in quality and price. We prefer to use natural products or high quality concrete products, but the most important point is that you are informed of materials available, then we are there to guide you in your decision.

Materials
• Natural Stone such as Sandstone in different
colours or Slate
• Manufactured/Concrete Products

Marshall’s and Bradstone are some of the better known suppliers we use with a wide range of products for your new patio.

Driveways: The in's and out's

The most important points on driveways are the foundation and drainage. The drive will look beautiful and be an asset to your garden when it is finished , and with Cambridgeshire Landscaping and Design, our attention to the foundation means that even after several years of vehicle wheels running in the same places those unsightly dents and ruts will still never appear!

Planting & Bed Preparation

Referred to by the professionals as soft landscaping, this is extremely important to bring the garden to life. If it is done correctly it will provide interest and beautiful colour all year, and attract wildlife to your garden.

The plants are the most difficult part of the equation because they are a living entity.

With our planting schemes some plants will be used for their structure and leaf shape others for their flowers, others for their scent, some for the fruits they bear.

We take into consideration your style and lifestyle points to achieve excellent results, giving you hours of pleasure as you relax, enjoying the flowers and shrubs.

Decking

Decking is great if used in the right situation, it's cheaper than using paving to provide a garden seating or entertaining area, and is a very popular feature.

Cambridgeshire Landscaping and Design wil happily give you advice on the best solution to your outdoor living spaces. Surrounding planting that compliments decking is always taken into consideration.

Structures

This is an extremely important point to provide height and added interest in the garden, some of the structures to consider are Gazebos ideal for sitting in the evenings with a glass of wine, Pergolas ideal for shading seating areas and growing climbing plants on, Arches to add height and interest to a path or act as an entrance, Trellis as a screen or backdrop again using climbing plants, and seats to pause and reflect on your garden. We place fencing in this category as it not only provides a secure boundary but can be the backdrop for all planting.

Water Features

Water in the garden is an important factor; the sound of running water is very calming and a good addition to the garden, we construct Koi ponds, or ponds for goldfish and wildlife. If the maintenance of ponds is too much for the busy household then fountains or water features using natural stone can be constructed.

• Natural Ponds
